Colts Cricket at Henfield
U12s Secure First Trophy for 2011
February is barely going but Henfield colts have been battling away in the South Sussex Area indoor league and have been amongst the trophy winners already.
U12s were new to this format of the game and after a couple of early set backs have come back strongly picking up the Conference Title in their age group, effectively topping Division Two after the main league was divided at Christmas. The team was very well led by Harry Slade and featured great contributions from batsman keeper Ed Cleary, and all rounders Tom Law, Matt Dale and Ollie Barrott. A number of guys filled in the sixth man role and big thanks go to all but special mention should be made of Calum McLeod, who probably played most and fared really well against lads two years older than himself.

U13s report to follow
U14s played 10 matches, won 4 and tied 1, so finishing 2nd in Conference, after an eventful final game which was tied with Conference winners Hurstpierpoint. The U14s had a settled team of Harry Stewart (WK), Max Bateman, George Stewart, Max Yearwood, Dan Hodgkin (C) and James Napp, playing 1 year up, with impressive appearances also from Tom Law and Harry Slade, both playing 2 years up. Highlights included being one of only two teams to take all six Brighton and Hove wickets and beating the eventual League winners Preston Nomads, though unfortunately the team were unable to play consistently at this high standard.
The team developed and learnt as the weeks went on and each player had ‘their day’ with the bat, ball or in the field. Max Bateman’s left arm offspin proved difficult to get away and he took an excellent sharp catch at silly point at a key stage in the last match; James Napp’s batting gained in confidence week on week with a top score of 26, Max Yearwood’s bowling became more consistent and his ability to add runs at the end of the innings was very valuable; George Stewart’s bowling was amongst the fastest on show and he was joint 3rd in the league wicket takers, Dan Hodgkin’s run total of 209 was 2nd highest in the U14s , Harry Stewart’s 63 not out was the highest individual score in ANY of the leagues; and Dan (21) and Harry (18) were 1st and 2nd in the boundary hitting table.
The team have learnt a lot from the indoor league and I know their outdoor cricket will benefit greatly from this experience. Thanks to all the parents and grandparents for your excellent support!
